My initial reaction when my wife showed interest in a Doula was, " what the heck is a Doula"?
I had never heard of it and didn't know how to process why my wife wanted someone other than me to help during labor.
I approached the initial interview with an open mind and found the information and services Brittni provided interesting and humbling. There was more to labor and delivery than I had remembered from our first, over 10 years ago.
I quickly realized that my wife wouldn't be the only one to benefit from having a doula and that Brittni would actually help me, to help my wife in ways that I didn't know how to.
As the time got closer to our projected due date, Brittni was in frequent communication with my wife and provided her the reassurance she needed that I often (unintentionally) slacked in. My wife had a support team, and that helped put her at ease.
Upon arrival at the hospital, I completely embraced the experience and understood the importance of a Doula.
Brittni arrived shortly after we were given our room and was 100% committed to helping us achieve our personalized birth plan.
Brittni simultaneously coached my wife and I, and contributed more than I had expected through labor and delivery. She was able to remind my wife of the normal transitions, things to expect and helped keep us all encouraged. She also captured pictures that we otherwise would not have had.
I appreciated how she mediated with hospital staff and ensured we received the care and treatment we deserved and our wishes were respected.
After laboring all through the night and extreme fatigue, our baby girl was brought into this world almost exactly as we hoped and planned for.
The overall experience was incredible and my wife and I were thankful to have her with us and apart of it all.
As a husband and father, I highly recommend Brittni!
